Sustainability Initiatives

At Breckinridge, sustainability is an integral part of our business approach. We believe companies that create value for all are more competitive and resilient over the long term. As a key strategic priority, we approach sustainability in the following ways:

ESG Integration

As an asset manager, we believe the most effective way we can integrate sustainability into our business is through our investment decisions on behalf of our clients. To this end, we have developed a robust environmental, social and governance (ESG) capability, which is fully integrated into our research process.

Over the years, we’ve continued to refine our ESG research and develop new capabilities to further enhance our sustainability insights. Through our continuing commitment to excellence and innovation, we aim to lead by example within this dynamic space.

We are proud to have won the 2019 ESG Manager Award from Chief Investment Officer.1 For 10 years, CIO‘s Industry Innovation Awards program has highlighted innovative approaches to asset management and asset owning. We thank CIO for this award. Read more here

Our ESG integration philosophy is aligned with the United Nations backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). As a PRI signatory we are committed to its core principles and we aim to create a broader dialogue about sustainability, ESG integration and long-term value creation within the investor community.

2022 Corporate Sustainability Report

To learn more about corporate sustainability efforts, we invite you to explore our CSR.

Corporate Stewardship

Breckinridge is a certified B Corp and a Massachusetts registered Benefit Corporation. By proactively seeking these designations, we have firmly established a commitment to sustainability within our business.

While both designations galvanize us to use our business as a force for good, our status as a Benefit Corporation ensures that this commitment is legally protected, and being a B Corp provides us a systematic framework to measure our corporate sustainability performance.

To add structure to our efforts, we have a Sustainability Committee, composed of employees of all levels across the organization, to help ensure that sustainability permeates all we do.

In 2021 we published a Climate Policy and Framework which can be viewed here.

What is the PRI?

The PRI is the world's leading proponent of responsible investment. By working to understand the investment implications of ESG factors, the PRI supports signatories in the incorporation of these factors.

Net Zero Asset Managers initiative

In December 2021, Breckinridge signed the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative (NZAMI), an international group of asset managers committed to supporting the goal of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 or sooner, in line with global efforts to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

What are B Corps?

B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. They seek to use business as a force for good. Breckinridge is a 2019 “Best for the World” honoree in the Customer, Governance and Changemaker categories.[2]

Community Outreach

Breckinridge’s aim to be a better corporate citizen extends beyond our goals to improve our own business practices. We are also committed to the environment and communities in which we live, work and invest.

Charitable giving, volunteerism and sustainability-aligned sponsorship form the foundation of our community outreach efforts. Annually, we aim to donate 1 percent of our gross revenues, match individual employee giving up to $1,500 and offer employees two company-sponsored volunteer days and one personal volunteer day. Volunteer opportunities have included those with the organizations listed below and more.

Breckinridge continuously fosters deep employee involvement in our charitable activities, volunteer efforts and strategic sponsorship decisions. By enabling our employees to directly address important social and environmental issues, we aim to further bolster our impact.

[1] The CIO Industry Innovation Awards are sponsored and administered by Chief Investment Officer (CIO) magazine. A nomination request is published by the magazine each year through a general announcement published on its website. Nominations are accepted through a digital survey or by completing and emailing the magazine’s 2018 CIO nomination form. Finalists and winners are chosen by the CIO editorial team in conjunction with an Advisory Board of CIOs. Awards are announced at the magazine’s annual Innovation Gala. The award was based on data from 2018. Breckinridge sponsored a table at, and attended, the Innovation Gala Awards dinner on December 12, 2019 where the winners were announced.
