October 24, 2016 - Having long recognized the importance of ESG in assessing credit risks and opportunities, Peter Coffin joined SASB’s Investor Advisory Group (IAG) as a founding member. In the formation of the IAG, SASB, Breckinridge and other leading asset owners and managers will encourage companies to disclose material ESG information and advocate for improving the quality and comparability of sustainability-related disclosure to investors.

Credit Research Team Reframes Analysis of Cities and Counties
October 3, 2016 - We have reframed our analysis of cities and counties to emphasize social progress. While the integration of ESG factors into our investment analysis offered useful insights on the sustainability profiles of the cities and counties in which we invest, we recognized that a more robust, forward-thinking framework was needed. This led us to a comprehensive framework redesign where we depart from our traditional ESG methodology and anchor our framework in the analysis of social progress. In doing so, our goal is to identify cities and counties that are thriving both economically and socially.
Breckinridge Collaborates with MIT S-Lab on ESG Research
August 9, 2016 - As sustainability continues to gain momentum in the investment industry, we are excited to see more business schools integrating curriculum on ESG and impact investing. MIT Sloan School of Management’s S-Lab provides students with a unique opportunity to explore the connection between business, the environment and society. The S-Lab’s latest student-led research project leveraged Breckinridge insights to investigate the relationship between ESG disclosure scores and corporate fixed income performance.
Our Comments on the SEC's Business and Financial Disclosure Requirements
July 21, 2016 - We submitted comments on SEC’s April 2016 concept release for Regulation SK; the release is a part of an SEC initiative to review and improve disclosure requirements. Our comments focused on the reasons for integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into credit research; the importance of standardized reporting in evaluating sustainability; and our recommendations for meaningful disclosure requirements.

Breckinridge Signs PRI Statement on ESG in Credit Ratings
April 13, 2016 - As a member of PRI’s Fixed Income Engagement Sub-Committee and an advocate of the PRI’s efforts, Breckinridge has signed onto the organization’s “Statement on ESG in Credit Ratings.” The Statement calls for credit rating agencies to incorporate ESG into their credit analysis in a more systematic and transparent way.
