Breckinridge Awarded B Corporation Status

(Boston, February 19, 2013) Breckinridge Capital Advisors, a Boston-based high-grade fixed income manager, has been awarded B Corporation certification, joining over 680 other businesses in 24 countries who meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
Breckinridge has been managing bond portfolios for institutions and private clients since 1993 and has over $18 billion under management. Over the past two years, Breckinridge has added a sustainable investing approach, including environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria in its credit research process.
According to Peter Coffin, founder and president of Breckinridge, “We are committed to the environment and the communities in which we live, work and invest. Becoming a B Corp strengthens that commitment and attests to the integrity of our business. It also demonstrates that the standards we apply to ourselves are consistent with those we seek with the companies and municipalities in which we invest.”
Certified B Corporations, 1) meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance; 2) legally expand their corporate responsibilities to include consideration of stakeholder interests; and 3) build collective voice through the power of the unifying B Corporation brand. As of today, there are over 680 Certified B Corporations from over 60 industries, representing a diverse multi-billion marketplace.
Breckinridge qualified because of its commitment to sustainability investing, its competitive employee benefit programs, and the transparency to both customers and employees that it practices in its business operations.
B Lab is a nonprofit organization that awards the B Corporation designation. The organization is partially funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, the U.S. Agency for International development (USAID), and the Prudential Foundation and describes itself as “dedicated to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.”
In Massachusetts, there are only 21 certified B Corporations and Breckinridge is one of only three investment firms to achieve this distinction.
